Meet Our Doctors & Team

Michael Mellenthin, MD

Anesthesiologist

As Snug Dental’s board-certified anesthesiologist, I help children receive necessary dental care with general anesthesia. This allows the required dental treatment to be achieved conveniently with minimal trauma and maximum safety. I am pleased to offer this service and wish to introduce myself and provide you with a brief explanation of the anesthetic techniques that I use. My goal is to provide you with the safest and highest level of medical care in the comfort and convenience of Snug Dental’s office.

I have been in private practice since 1989. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Stanford University, my medical degree from the University of California Los Angeles, and completed my anesthesia residency at UCLA and Stanford Schools of Medicine. In medical school, I was a UC Regents Scholar (one of six in a class of 128). During the residency at UCLA, I served as chief resident and my training had a focus on pediatrics. I have extensive hospital-based experience (over 25 years) in pediatric, cardiac (open heart procedures on cardiopulmonary bypass), thoracic, vascular, trauma, neurosurgical, obstetric, and general anesthesia. I have also more recently been Medical Director at two Dental Surgery Centers that provide extensive dental restorative treatment for children. I believe that the above experiences have provided me the knowledge and experience required to manage any medical challenges that might arise in a dental office.

Office-based anesthesia is a unique subspecialty in the field of anesthesiology. The State of California, the Medical Board of California, and the Dental Board of California carefully regulate the qualifications of anesthesiologists in the dental office setting as well as the routine and emergency equipment that must be available on-site. In addition to a license to practice medicine in California, I have a General Anesthesia Permit issued by the Dental Board of California. In the hospital, surgery center, and office settings, I’ve had extensive pediatric anesthesia experience for over 30 years. Outside of my private practice, I’ve made several trips to Guatemala, Cambodia, Bhutan, Kenya, and Myanmar to provide anesthesia for children with cleft lips/palates and other deformities.

Beverly Yamasaki, DDS

General Dentist

Dr. Beverly Yamasaki is passionate about helping children and families feel comfortable, cared for, and understood. She believes every child deserves a safe and positive dental experience, and she takes pride in providing gentle, high-quality care that helps build trust and confidence from an early age.

Dr. Yamasaki earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from New York University College of Dentistry and her Bachelor of Science (BS) in Integrative Biology from University of California, Berkeley. After completing a General Practice Residency at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, she gained valuable experience treating patients of all ages—from complex dental cases to everyday preventive care—while developing a calm, reassuring approach that she continues to bring to her patients today.

Since moving to the Bay Area in 2012, Dr. Yamasaki has cared for patients throughout the region, and since 2017, she has focused exclusively on treating children under general anesthesia. Working across Alameda, Merced, and San Joaquin Counties, she has helped thousands of young patients—many from underserved communities—receive the care they need in a safe and supportive setting.

Families often describe Dr. Yamasaki as warm, empathetic, and easy to talk to. She understands that having a child undergo dental treatment can feel overwhelming, and she takes the time to make sure parents feel informed, reassured, and cared for every step of the way.

Outside of work, Dr. Yamasaki is married and a proud mom of two young boys who keep her on her toes and fill her days with laughter. In her spare time, she enjoys going to concerts, trying new restaurants, and discovering new playgrounds with her family.
